Updated for iOS 26, September 2026.
Adding / Updating an Account
If we have sent you an iOS Profile then please follow these instructions.
Before you start, you’ll need the email address and password we sent you.
1. Open Mail Settings
Open Settings (grey cog), tap Apps (at the bottom), then Mail.
- New account: tap Mail Accounts → Add Account, then continue to step 2.
- Existing account: tap Mail Accounts, then the account name, then Account. Skip to step 3.
2. Enter your details
Enter your email address and tap Next. When asked to choose a provider, tap Add Other Account… → Mail Account, then fill in:
- Name: what people see when you email them, such as your name or business name
- Email and Password: as supplied by us
- Description: a label for your own reference, such as “Work”
Tap Next.
3. Server Settings
Make sure IMAP is selected, then enter:
| Incoming | Outgoing | |
|---|---|---|
| Host Name | imap.stackmail.com | smtp.stackmail.com |
| Username | your email address | your email address |
| Password | your mailbox password | your mailbox password |
Fill in the outgoing username and password even though iOS marks them as optional. Tap Next and wait while the settings are checked.
4. Finish
Make sure Mail is switched on and Notes is off, then tap Save. Your email will now appear in the Mail app.
Troubleshooting
Email apps connect to two separate servers, one for incoming emails (the IMAP server), and one for outgoing emails (the SMTP server). If you have an issue, be sure that you are updating settings for the relevant server.
“Cannot Connect Using SSL”
Tap No. Don’t choose to continue without SSL, as that sends your password unencrypted. Then check the following:
- Host names. These must be exactly
imap.stackmail.com(incoming) andsmtp.stackmail.com(outgoing), with no spaces or capital letters. - Your network. Double-check you are online and able to browse the internet.
- Your password. Check it by logging in at webmail.stackmail.com. If that fails, contact us for a reset.
Checking the ports
If your account has been saved but isn’t sending or receiving, check the security settings. Open Settings → Apps → Mail → Mail Accounts, tap your account, then tap Account.
Incoming (receiving email):
Tap Advanced at the bottom and check:
- Use SSL: On
- Authentication: Password
- Server Port: 993
Tap Account at the top left to go back.
Outgoing (sending email):
Tap SMTP under Outgoing Mail Server, then tap smtp.stackmail.com and check:
- Use SSL: On
- Authentication: Password
- Server Port: 465
If sending still fails on port 465, try 587 with SSL still on. Tap Done, then Account, then Done to save.
Still not working?
Delete the account (Settings → Apps → Mail → Mail Accounts, tap the account, then Delete Account) and set it up again from the start.
Emergency Solution
Although it’s a poor experience compared to using an app, you can always access your messages via webmail at https://webmail.mgcwebsites.co.uk
